Based in Oxfordshire, Daybreak Dementia Day Clubs is a small specialist charity providing respite care and support for people with dementia and their carers. In 2016, Daybreak requested a grant towards a Music Therapy project and £1500 enabled the purchase of various instruments, including a piano, which a visiting music therapist plays to members of Limes Daybreak Club. The Club Organiser writes: ‘The piano has made a huge difference to us. Some of the group find verbal communication difficult but when the music starts inhibitions fall away, and so do some of the cognitive barriers. The feeling of shared achievement and pleasure at the end of the music session is often very tangible.’
